After the high intensity of rainfall and the extraordinary flow of streams, the situation in the territory of the Municipality of Shkodra currently appears calmer.
According to the Civil Protection and the relevant units of the district, the Prefect of the Shkodra District, the main problems have been identified in the Gur i Zi administrative unit (the villages of Gur i Zi, Juban, Verracak) and in the Bërdicë administrative unit (Bërdicë e Sipërme, Mali Hebaj, Beltojë, Bërdicë e Madhe, Bërdicë e Mesme, Trush).
Also, water has been detected in about 25-30 homes in the Bërdicë unit and 10-15 homes in Gur i Zi. The announcement states that rainfall continues with high intensity in Vau e Dejës, Pukë, Fushë-Arrëz and Lezhë.
Full announcement:
All local structures (Civil Emergencies, NSHPP, IMT, Municipal Police, MNZ and other support structures) have been engaged with human resources and logistical means to unblock the joints, clean the canals and inert materials, as well as to assist residents.
3 excavators, 3 wheel loaders, 2 trucks, 3 pickup trucks, suction pumps and pick-up vehicles were used to normalize the situation. Agricultural lands were flooded in the Gur i Zi unit and in the Nënshkodra area (Bërdicë, Dajç, Velipojë, Ana e Malit) to the extent of about 70%.
It is emphasized that the water flows have affected areas that were not even affected during the 2010 floods. No people have been evacuated so far.
There is a lack of electricity in parts of Bardhaj and Rrenc, due to a transformer fire. The situation is under constant monitoring, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue overnight until midnight.
Municipality of Vau Dejas
Due to heavy rainfall, the situation in the municipality has deteriorated significantly. The overflowing of the Glina stream has flooded about 100 homes and several hectares of agricultural land.
Regarding the Glina stream, it is necessary to carry out rehabilitation investments to avoid the consequences of flooding. The operational structures of the municipality are on full alert and have been monitoring the situation on the ground since the early hours of the morning. Landslides and flooding of infrastructure have been reported on the main and secondary roads of the city and villages. So far, one evacuation case has been identified. The operational structures continue to work on the ground in support of residents.
Municipality of Puka
Intense rainfall continues. Problems are reported on rural roads in the administrative units of Gjegjan, Rrapë, Qelëz and Qetërr, with landslides, rockfalls and flooding. Electricity supply is intermittently interrupted. The situation is under constant monitoring.
Municipality of Fushe Arrez
The rain continues with high intensity. There is a significant presence of water on the roads, as well as landslides and rockfalls on the rural roads of the administrative units of the municipality. The electricity supply has had periodic disconnections in several villages of the Qafë-Mali, Iballë, Blerim and Fierzë units. So far, no other problems have been reported by the Civil Emergencies.
Lezha Irrigation and Drainage Directorate
The amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours in Shkodër Region has exceeded 200 mm, with rainfall continuing at high intensity. Flood protection works (embankments, dams and the Shtodër reservoir dam) do not present any problems. The main drainage channels are functioning, but the flows are beyond the carrying capacities. As a result, in some inhabited areas in Vau Dejës, Bushat, Melgushë and Gur i Zi, water has overflowed the sections of the channels. The levels of the Buna, Drin and Kir rivers are currently below the danger levels.
Rainfall continues throughout the region with low to moderate intensity. Local Civil Protection structures, municipalities and supporting institutions are on full alert, monitoring the situation on the ground and intervening where necessary.
