The elected Socialist Party MP, Agron Malaj, appeared this Tuesday at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, to closely follow the first court session regarding the lawsuit he filed against the Democratic Party MP, Xhelal Mziu, for defamation.
The lawsuit comes after a statement made by Meziu on May 10, the day before the May 11 parliamentary elections, where he accused Malaj of being involved in vote buying.
The minister's statements came after Democratic Party supporters stopped a vehicle, claiming that the people inside were distributing money to buy votes in favor of the Socialist Party. Following this incident, the DP's political leader for the Dibra region, Xhelal Meziu, publicly accused the SP candidate, Agron Malaj, stating that the vehicle distributing the money was owned by the latter.
In today's session, Malaj appeared in the capacity of the victim of the criminal offense, while the court is expected to further examine the evidence and claims of the parties.
The trial will continue with further sessions, while the defense lawyers and legal representatives of the defendant Xhelal Mziu are expected to present their position on the charges raised.
