A war waged in the digital age multiplies the speed of information dissemination.
On social media, you read unnecessary details, or even manipulated and inaccurate material. Mental health experts say that the conflict between Iran and Israel and the US is affecting people's psychological state.
"We are all very exposed. Whatever happens on the other side of the world, we have it on our phone and it reaches us at home. Beyond of course all the sensitivity, empathy and information, when it turns into information overload this causes certain elements such as anxiety about the future, fear of the unknown or elements that can be physical such as insomnia or panic," says Lorela Garuli, psychologist.
Psychologist Lorela Garuli says that even in Albania, people are turning to psychosocial services due to experiencing the event with a multitude of negative feelings.
"We also see it in clinical practice in individuals who worry and feel a kind of uncertainty or instability about things happening in the world that, despite being far away, they feel very close to. There is also a psychological phenomenon that we refer to as "dumb scrolling", which has to do with seeing, scrolling on social networks, news that has a negative impact," adds Garuli.
Maintaining a balance with the amount of news on a sensitive issue like war is the first piece of advice from professionals, as they emphasize following reliable media for information.
"What we need to do in these cases is try to have a sense of proportion. Keep in mind how algorithms work, the more we see something, the more information we will have of this typology. So, the first thing is in our hands to have more control and be selective," she emphasizes./TCH
