An absurd story has come to light from the city of Kukës, where a citizen claims that the Prosecution Office lost money seized during a criminal investigation.
This is Hysni Hani, who was arrested in flagrante delicto in Fushë-Krujë, after being accused of buying a weapon to sell later. After the conclusion of the court proceedings, Hani was sentenced to 13 months in prison, of which he served 7 months and 15 days.
At the time of his arrest, 1 million old lek, 500 euros, two cell phones, and the vehicle he was traveling in were seized from him. All of these were registered as material evidence by the prosecution, with the obligation to return them to the owner after the conclusion of the case.
But when Hysni Hani showed up to collect the items and money, the prosecution told him that most of the amount was missing. Of the 1 million old lek and 500 euros, he was only given 100 thousand lek and 100 euros, along with his cell phones.
"I asked them where my money is, and they said 'we don't know'. How is it possible for the money to be lost at the Prosecutor's Office?" said Hani, asking for help in finding the truth.
The case has also been investigated by the Shkodra Prosecutor's Office, which has registered criminal proceedings for the offense of 'Theft by Abuse of Office'.
However, after several months of investigation, the prosecution decided to suspend the case, on the grounds that the perpetrator of the theft had not been found.
The prosecutor's decision included statements from 7 employees of the Kukes Prosecutor's Office, from judicial police officers to the secretary. All of them deny having opened the envelope or having received the money.
The Chief Secretary of the Kukes Prosecution Office, Flamur Cejku, who was questioned during the investigation, said that "the envelope made its way from the Prosecution Office to the Court of First Instance, then to the Court of Appeal, and then was returned," adding that he cannot provide further answers without an official request.
Although the proceedings have been suspended, citizen Hani requests that the case be reopened and those responsible for the disappearance of the amount that, according to him, was kept by the prosecution itself be found.
"I trusted the state, but my money was lost in the hands of the Prosecutor's Office. I just want to know who took it," he says./ TCH
