The leader of the "Union of Journalists", Aleksandër Çipa, speaking about the November 9 elections in 5 municipalities in the country, stated that the 5-0 result in favor of the SP was expected.
In an interview for the show "TëPashoq" on the "Pamfleti" YouTube channel, Çipa said the opposition's decision to run independent, but approved, candidates sealed the outcome. According to him, another factor that made these elections not have the necessary importance was the Constitutional Court's decision to cancel the elections in Tirana.
Excerpt from the interview:
-Let's start with the November 9 elections that passed without much fanfare, a gloomy and rainy day. The opposition did not even discuss it at all, in the end it almost did not even participate. Yes, an expected result, but what was a bad surprise in this case, I would say, is the very low number of voters, especially Vlora in dramatic figures. How did you read it on Sunday?
Çipa : It couldn't have happened otherwise in the conditions when in the process of the tight campaign period, because no more than a week of campaigning was made available, there was no what is called competition or in other words, competition between the two main political directions. The opposition chose to compete with an independent approved by it. And the political majority, which carries and inherits an electoral structure that we already know as deterministic of the electoral terrain, let us understand that the result was readable in advance. So there was no new expectation, a challenge and secondly, in the conditions when the competition for the most controversial unit that was the capital of the country, Tirana, was excluded, the other five administrative units necessarily do not have a specific weight, let's say electoral, to rise to the level of a case, of a champion to read either the electoral present, or the electoral progression of the country.
So, in the conditions where this competition was lacking, in the conditions where the opposition chose protagonists who do not belong to its political fold, in the conditions where the opposition itself did not demonstrate a seriousness to rise to the height of the task and even more so to make a difference with the May 11 process, and in the conditions where the main articulators of the opposition themselves avoided its protagonist, avoided this competition, and I would also add the finite reason that by weight is not infinite, the elections of, let's say, November 9 were not a mandate, they were simply a partial competition for a truncated share of an excessive mandate in the local government mandates.
