The Democratic Party has continued preparations for the protest announced for today at 6:00 PM in front of the Prime Minister's Office, even though Tirana Police announced that they have not given authorization for it to take place.
A metal fence has been placed in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, while the podium where the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, is expected to deliver a speech is being assembled nearby.
The police explained that the decision to deny permission was made after a risk analysis. According to them, at the previous protest there were masked people who threw Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnic devices, causing injuries to police officers. The authorities added that they have information about the possibility of violent incidents at today's rally as well.
Meanwhile, the police announced that they will block several road axes from 3:00 PM until the end of the protest. Vehicle movement will be stopped on the “Deshmorët e Kombit” boulevard, from the intersection near the Ministry of Interior to “Mother Teresa” Square, as well as on “Ukraine e Lirë”, “Papa John Paul II” and “Ismail Qemali” streets.
The protest is expected to take place at the announced time, while security measures have been increased in the area around the Prime Minister's Office.
