Requested release from cell/ GJKKO appeal decides for Jurgis Çyrbe

The appeal of the GJKKO has left former SP MP Jurgis Ccyrbja in prison, rejecting the latter's request to lift the security measure.

Against Çyrbja, SPAK filed charges of "active electoral corruption", "supporting the perpetrator of the crime" and "trading state secrets".

The investigations against former SP MP and citizens Ahmet Masha and Altin Hajri were conducted by SPAK prosecutor Adnan Xholi.

The investigations into Çyrbja revealed deep connections and coexistence between organized crime and politics, as well as their influence on the electoral process, distorting the free vote and the country's democratic system.

According to the investigation, in exchange for votes and support, Çyrba used his position as an MP to obtain secret information from the police, which he made available to members of criminal groups.

Investigations have revealed that in eight different episodes during the period May 2020 - March 2021, the former MP was made aware of data from the "TIMS" system on a wanted person, as well as secret information from the General Directorate of the State Police.

Brussels message to politics/Stop attacks on SPAK, we are monitoring the lifting of immunity

In an interview with Deutsche Welle, the EU ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, praises Albania's progress towards European integration, but emphasizes that the country is at a crucial stage.

According to him, the opening of the negotiation chapters was an important achievement, but now the focus is on the "Fundamentals": the rule of law, the fight against corruption, fundamental rights and the functioning of justice. The European Commission will assess whether the reforms are real and implementable, before starting to close the chapters.

The Ambassador also focuses on EU funds, calling for transparency and rigorous management, especially for the IPARD program, where the Albanian government is expected to guarantee full financial control before resuming support.

Regarding justice, Gonzato positively assesses the work of SPAK, especially in the fight against organized crime and high-level corruption. He expresses concern about political attacks on the judiciary and emphasizes that reforms should strengthen, not weaken, the independence of the judiciary.

The message to the political class is clear: cooperation, constructive dialogue, and serious commitment to the fight against corruption are key to EU membership.
