After 7 hours since the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë road was blocked by a landslide, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has finally reacted.
In a press release, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources stated that work is underway to unblock the road and that the landslide was caused by erosion and heavy rainfall in recent weeks. The Ministry added that 6 excavators and 2 bulldozers are on the ground clearing debris from the road, while also asking for the understanding of citizens.
" The Albanian Road Administration and the maintenance contractor company are engaged with all means and possibilities to unblock the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë road axis. In the Librazhd-Prrenjas segment, about 3 km from Librazhd, in the village of Dragostunjë, as a result of heavy rainfall, a mass of soil and rocks has detached from the upper slope of the railway, completely blocking the railway and the road below it.
Contractors immediately engaged 6 excavators, 2 excavators and workers to open the road as soon as possible. The reasons for this situation are related to the heavy rains of recent weeks and the pronounced erosion of the slope above the road.
"In parallel with the cleaning of the fallen material, the dismantling of the massif that has moved and is unstable is also being carried out, avoiding a possible risk of further collapse. ARRSH asks for the understanding of all vehicle users for the delays caused by this necessary intervention to unblock the road ," the MIE announcement states.
