Since the morning hours, citizens have been waiting for the Librazhd-Qafë Thanë axis to be unblocked, because the road was blocked by a landslide of soil and rock.
They express outrage as the road remains blocked.
"We've been waiting for an hour and a half. We're coming from Tirana, we're going to Macedonia. They haven't given us any information, we don't know what's going on. The road is finally opening for us to escape to our family."
"We've been waiting for five hours, we're sick. No one has informed us. We're sick and we're waiting, what can we do?"
One of the trapped citizens said he was at the scene about 5 minutes before the landslide. He added that he was alerted to the landslide by the driver of a 'Benz', who had signaled with his lights.
According to the citizen in question, the driver of the 'Benz' was at greater risk, as he was closer in time and location to the moment of the landslide.
"One of them did it to us with his lights, he was in a Benz. He did it to us with his lights and told us that there was a landslide. Then when we got closer here we saw this one fall and we didn't... I think we escaped for 10 minutes, or 5 minutes. Or no, I think less. This one was 100-200 meters away, I was behind this one. The other one with the Benz escaped well," said one of the witnesses at the scene.
Meanwhile, another citizen who was present during the landslide indicated that he was only 100 meters away from the site when the event occurred.
"I was 100 meters away when the ground collapsed. The moment my lights went on, we came here, we saw the collapsed mountain. God willing, what else can I say. It's good that they are opening the way for us," said another citizen.
The Librazhd-Qafë Thanë road is blocked in both directions. The cause is a landslide of soil and rocks from the mountain in a place called Dragostunjë.
"Traffic Police Services are in this area and are cooperating with the road maintenance contractor to clear the road as quickly as possible in order to resume vehicle movement," the police announced.
The blue uniforms call on citizens who want to go towards Korça or vice versa to avoid moving until a second announcement about the opening of the road.
