Ermal Onuzi did not last long at the head of the Republican Guard. According to sources, he resigned today from the position he took up in September last year.
Onuzi is considered one of the most controversial figures to have led the Guard, as numerous accusations and complaints have been accumulated against him in just 9 months. One of the most serious scandals is related to the "donation" of the Guard Training Center for the construction of towers.
" Pamphlet " previously denounced that Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha had set up a working group with lawyers and specialists to take away from the Guard the land where the Training Center is located, in the heart of the protected area of Tirana's Artificial Lake.
After supposedly four months of "study", the working group prepared the documentation to remove 20 thousand m² of land from the inventory, transferring it for use to the Territorial Development Agency, headed by Edi Rama, which had designated it as a construction zone.
The request for this transfer was signed by Ermal Onuzi himself in October 2024, just one month after he was appointed to the position - an appointment that was made by amending a special law.
Another serious scandal is related to illegal wiretapping. According to a report submitted to Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister Ervin Hoxha by officers and bodyguards of the Guard, Onuzi had set up a data collection network on ministers and officials of institutions such as SPAK, BKH and the Special Court. The officers claim that they were ordered to carry out illegal surveillance actions.
Furthermore, Onuzi is suspected of having recently performed his duties without a security certificate, which constitutes a serious violation of state security protocols.
According to his personal file and the Register of the Classified Information Security Directorate, it appears that his security clearance was permanently revoked in February 2023, when he was dismissed from his position as Deputy Director General of the Defense Intelligence and Security Agency (AISM).
He was dismissed at the request of the NATO office at the Ministry of Defense, for violating the Security of Classified Information, selling it to foreign interest groups and agencies, and for contacts with exponents of the criminal world and in arms trafficking.
Ermal Onuzi began his connection with crime in 2005 with Sali Berisha's son-in-law, Feriz Breçani, when together with him he was head of the trafficking tracking sector in the Army Intelligence Service.
In 6 reports of the SHISH and Anti-Trafficking in the years 2006-2009, which are in the archives of the State Police, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Defense, it is stated that Feriz Breçani and Ermal Onuzi, officials of the Army Intelligence Service, allowed and did not report drug and weapons trafficking, by persons from Tropoja, Kukës, Dibra, Podgorica and Gjakova, even with army vehicles with the logo of the Army Intelligence Service and Military Police.
The Director of the Guard, Ermal Onuzi, has collaborated with crime in 18 cases ascertained by the police, SHISH and Anti-crime in the period March 2023-January 2024, when he was the director of anti-trafficking and anti-smuggling operations at the security company "S2 Secure Albania" at the Port of Durres.
The name of the head guard Ermal Onuzi also came up on December 8, 2023 when he was the chief of control at the Port of Durres; and from the investigations, it turned out that he allowed the Bana-King container with 55 crates of cocaine. So it seems that with his departure, the Republic Guard has escaped the occupation of crime. / Pamphlet
