What will happen to US Embassies in the Balkans? DASH: Programs are being

A few days ago, prestigious media outlets such as "The New York Times", "Washington Post", "Reuters", "Le Monde" and "AFP" reported on budget cut plans for the US State Department.

The articles were based on a "Memo", according to which the budget cut would be around 50% and that this could even lead to the closure of embassies or layoffs of diplomatic personnel.

But has there been any concrete movement from the State Department for reforms and budget cuts regarding the embassies that the US has in the Balkans and is there any concrete plan regarding the US Embassy in Pristina?

A spokesperson for the US Department of State, in an exclusive response to Gazeta Express, said that there is no closure of any embassy or consulate and that work is continuing normally.

According to the spokesperson, the US Department of State is continuing to assess US programs and global positioning to ensure they are in the best position to meet the challenges of the times.

"No embassy or consulate closures have been announced, and operations continue as normal. The State Department continues to assess programs and global positioning to ensure we are in the best position to meet modern challenges on behalf of the American people," a spokesperson for the US State Department told the Express Newspaper.

The US Embassy in Pristina, since the departure of Ambassador Jeff Hovenier in December last year, has continued to operate with Chargé d'Affaires Anu Prattipati.

The United States first opened a U.S. Information Service Office in Kosovo in 1996.

Between 1999-2008, the US Office in Pristina functioned as the United States diplomatic mission in Kosovo.
