After "Albcontrol", Becchetti blocks the funds of the Ministry of
Edi Rama and Francesco Becchetti

The employees of the Albanian diplomatic service have not yet received their salaries for the past month. The complaint was made to TPZ.al by an employee at the diplomatic headquarters of Albania in Italy. According to the Albanian diplomat, the reason for the delay in receiving salaries is the blocking of the embassy's bank accounts in an Italian bank where the funds for the diplomatic headquarters of Albania are transferred.

According to the Albanian diplomat in Italy, the delay in the payments that should have been made a few days ago is related to the obligations that the Albanian state has towards the Italian investor, Francesco Becchetti, who has won the right to receive a large compensation after winning the Arbitration trial with the Albanian government. .

This is not the first time that Albanian bank accounts abroad have been blocked to pay Becchetti. Almost a year ago, Brussels blocked 21 million euros of "Albcontrol", after the conflict between the Albanian government and the Italian investor, Francesco Becchetti, after the Italian investor received a compensation of 110 million euros at the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes.

The final decision gave the investor the right to collect money in the accounts that the Albanian state has outside the borders, one of which is Albcontrol's account at Eurocontrol in Brussels.

On May 26, 2021, at the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) another request of Albania was presented regarding the clash with the Italian investor Francesco Becchetti where a request for correction of the annulment decision presented by the Republic of Albania was registered .

The genesis of the clash between the state and the investor began in June 2015, when Francesco Becchetti's assets were frozen. Their blocking also led to the closure of Agon Channel television, after which the essence of the case was captured, which went to Arbitration.

Prime Minister Edi Rama declared last April that Albania "will open big problems" with this court, while adding that the possibility of leaving its jurisdiction altogether is being analyzed. The head of the government emphasized that the Albanian state has not paid a penny and that the battle with the Italian businessman will continue until the end.

"Albania has not paid a single grain of lek until today. Because it is a very complicated world with many procedures and we are becoming more and more capable of coping with the pressure", said Rama.
