After the arrest of Ilir Meta, the head of SPAK Altin Dumani appeared in public.
The head of the Special Anticorruption Structure, Altin Dumani, has stated that SPAK in its work must not only be effective in the fight against organized crime and corruption, but also respect the rights of citizens.
Speaking at the meeting with the General Prosecutor Olsian Çela and the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data, Besnik Dervishi, Dumani emphasized that "our approach is rooted in transparency and privacy, to guarantee that the methods we use fulfill European standards and protect the rights of citizens. We aim not only to be effective in the fight against organized crime but above all to preserve the values that are the foundation of our democratic societies."
For his part, the Prosecutor General, Çela underlined that "the process of monitoring by the Commissioner has value not only in terms of the implementation of the Agreement between the Republic of Albania and Eurojust, but it creates the possibility of establishing high standards for the handling of personal data from the side of the prosecution in all directions, this is very important also in the framework of the European integration process and the standards that must be met by Albanian institutions".
Also, he emphasized the necessity of a continuous institutional communication with the Commissioner also in terms of transparency with the public.
Meanwhile, in his speech to those present, Commissioner Dervishi emphasized the cooperation and proactive contribution of the central and local structures of the Prosecution system as very important, in order to strengthen the standards and mechanisms that guarantee the protection of personal data, as a fundamental right of the individual.
"The result seems more than positive, there was maximum evaluation from Eurojust's data protection colleagues and especially, the presentation as a model to be applied by other countries in the region at the Data Protection Academy, organized in Brussels in September of this year by the European Commission.
I appreciate that apart from the success of this Report, what else should be highlighted in this process is the excellent cooperation and communication between our independent Institutions in the very important mission they have.
This role assigned in this Agreement for our institution is related to a right considered very important in the EU. This, as well as the evaluation by international partners, definitely makes us feel good on the one hand, but on the other hand, it charges us with the responsibility to continue with the same commitment and quality this periodic exercise, which we must consider as an opportunity to improve work processes and good practices of inter-institutional cooperation", said Dervishi.
