Fitim Lalaj, the father of Dritan Lalaj, the 33-year-old who committed suicide yesterday (October 3, 2024) in Germany, was this Monday in a direct link to the show "People" on Euronews Albania where he asked for help take his son's body to bury him in his hometown.
Although he tried to be calm, the 33-year-old father couldn't hold back tears when asked how many children he had. He said that his son was the only one he had, while his wife had been dead for 12 years.
" I only had that boy. My wife has been dead for 12 years. I only had this. I had the light. He was the only one working in the family, because I have no pension, no support, I have no skills. I have a couple of cattle that I deal with ," said Fitim Lalaj.
He confessed that Dritani had tried to kill himself earlier, because he had not paid his salary in the bank. According to him, the 33-year-old was suffering from depression.
" He didn't have the money. He could be out of work for a week. He would stay in Germany for 6 months this time, until his visa ran out. He lived with other Albanians in Hamburg, but I don't know them. The mayor informed me about the death, he was informed by the Ministry of the Interior ", he said.
Asked when he last talked with Dritani, Fitim Lalaj said: " On the 30th I spoke for the last time. We talked on the phone. These other days I called him breakfast, lunch, dinner and he wouldn't answer my phone. The last time he apologized to me for stabbing himself. He took me on the phone and told me that he had stabbed himself, but he wouldn't do it again, now he did the biggest thing .
Although left alone in this life and without his greatest support, his only son Dritan, Fitim Lalaj says that his greatest wish is to take his body to bury.
" For me, as it was written. I have trouble bringing his body here. Who can help me? I just want to bury him here ," he said.
Fitim Lalaj told "People" that he has opened a bank account where people who want to help him can contribute.
