The country has been hit by massive flooding. Durrës, Lezha, Shkodra and other cities are facing massive flooding and homes under water.
DP Presidency Member Jola Hysaj spoke about the dire situation in Durrës, as the city is almost "paralyzed." She said that the country is in this situation because the drainage channels have not been maintained.
"This situation has accumulated as a result of irresponsible people who do not perform the functions they should perform. Where is the mayor and where is she located, where are the structures to provide services and maintain the drainage channels. They have shown themselves to be irresponsible, in the indiscriminate cutting of Durrës' vegetation, the lack of cleaning the channels," she told "News 24".
She emphasized that the suggestion by the police to cross onto Ndroqi Street was also irresponsible since the road is not maintained.
"This situation could have been avoided if maintenance had worked. The entire Civil Emergency Headquarters has been assembled but what should have been an emergency is not declared, the Army should be mobilized in these conditions."
But the local and central governments themselves do not want to admit that they have failed. Everywhere in Albania we are in an extraordinary situation that endangers the lives of citizens. There are numerous complaints, even the lives of children are at risk... I do not know where the evacuations took place... they were said officially, but there are hundreds where no one has knocked on their doors," Hysaj said.
