What you see in the photo is a newly paved road in neighborhood no. 8 of the city of Durrës. But the damaged appearance is not the result of any natural disaster, but of a rainy day and a poorly done job.
The road was rehabilitated at the end of December by the Albanian Development Fund, but just a few days after the completion of the works, the first rains were enough to cause the asphalt to crack and highlight the miserable quality of the work. Instead of an investment that solves the infrastructure problems, residents have been faced with another disappointment and danger for vehicles and pedestrians.
The Municipality of Durrës has reacted by confirming that the situation has been verified on the ground and that the Albanian Development Fund has been officially notified to intervene in the repair of the road. However, residents are tired of the promises and superficial interventions.
"This is a mockery. It hasn't even been two weeks since the work was completed and the road collapsed. Are they building the roads with cardboard? We want investments that last, not repairs every month," said a resident of the area.
This is not the only case in Durrës where new construction deteriorates within a few days. Such cases seriously raise the question: where does the public money go and who is responsible for this scandalous quality?
