Today, a group of alleged Russian hackers threatened to launch a cyber attack on some of the main institutions in Albania.
The attack, according to the announcement made by the group called "NoName057(16)", is said to have happened because of Albania's alignment with Ukraine in its fight to expel the Russian invaders from its territory.
" Albania is the next country that has decided to join the G7 statement on the security of the neo-Nazis in Ukraine. The Albanian authorities have delivered 22 armored personnel carriers and mortar shells to Ukraine. We remind you that Kosovo is Serbia and we will destroy the Albanian internet infrastructure ", the Russian hackers write.
They have also published the list of institutions they will attack, where there are two banks, the Parliament, the site of the railway and the Port of Durrës. One of the banks announced today that there were problems with the access of citizens and it may be a consequence of the attack.
Meanwhile, the pages of the Albanian Railway and the Port of Durrës are currently down and are not accessible. The websites of the Parliament and government institutions are active and it seems that the hackers have not been able to penetrate.
A year ago, Albania faced a massive cyber attack by the Iranians. After that attack the infrastructure was improved and it seems that the Russians did not find it so easy to create problems. They themselves in Telegram write that they have blocked many sites, but in fact the problems were temporary.
NoName057(16) is a pro-Russian hacker group that first declared itself in March 2022 and claimed responsibility for cyber attacks on Ukrainian, American and European websites of government agencies, media and private companies. It is considered an unorganized and loose pro-Russian activist group seeking to attract attention in Western countries.
