LDK extends hand to Kurti for coalition: Open to cooperation
Government of Kosovo

The Democratic League of Kosovo, which came third in the last parliamentary elections, does not rule out the possibility of a governing coalition with Albin Kurti's Vetevendosje Movement.

LDK Vice President Lutfi Haziri has stated that Kosovo needs the rapid formation of institutions and that his party is open to cooperation. "We are ready for cooperation from today," Haziri declared.

Meanwhile, the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said that communications with political parties will begin immediately after the certification of the results by the Central Election Commission (CEC).

"As soon as the result is certified, we will immediately begin communications with the parties," Kurti said.

Currently, the CEC is awaiting the completion of appeal procedures before announcing the final results of the June 7 snap parliamentary elections.

LVV, led by Kurti, has won a parliamentary majority with 53 MPs, while PDK has secured 22 MPs, LDK 18 MPs and AAK 7 MPs.

With this distribution of mandates, LVV has the opportunity to form a government without a coalition with other Albanian parties, but it needs support for the election of the president, which requires at least 80 MPs to be present during the vote.

An agreement with the LDK would secure 82 votes, just two more than the constitutional minimum of 80 deputies needed for the first and second rounds of voting for president.

Meanwhile, forming a government without the Vetevendosje Movement remains more difficult, as the three former opposition parties together have 47 MPs and need 14 more MPs for the necessary majority.

The certification of the results by the CEC is expected to take place in the first days of July.
