The opposition's protest escalated, as citizens threw Molotov cocktails at the Tirana City Hall building.
Protesters have thrown flares and Molotov cocktails, causing a huge fire at the entrance to the municipality.
Black smoke and fire covered the door of the institution, while police forces extinguished the flames.
In addition to Molotov cocktails and flares, the protesters also threw black paint and apples at the City Hall.
Using a megaphone, Tedi Blushi, municipal councilor of the Freedom Party, whom Meta has proposed to become the general secretary of this party, attacked SPAK again. Accusing the special prosecutor's office of collaborating with Erion Velina, he asked the latter to leave.
"From this square we are warning you that if you continue to defend yourself with the SPAK caught with the police that you have turned into your personal bodyguard, you know we will enter the office and we will arrest you and then Edi Rama", Blush said.
The opposition, but also citizens are protesting since 11:00 in front of the town hall, after the arrests of some former officials of this institution for abuse of office for the '5D' file. They demand the resignation of Mayor Veliaj.
Members of the opposition were also present, while Belind Kelliçi emphasized that the action will continue until Veliaj leaves the post.
The placards they were holding read: Enough! Resign!
This is the third protest organized by civil society with the support of DP, after the arrest of some former officials of the largest municipality in the country.
