The US State Department has added Albania and Kosovo to the 75 countries for which immigration visas have been suspended. The US Embassy in Tirana also explained what this decision means for Albania from January 21st.
According to the announcement, Albanians who have a US visa are allowed to travel to the US only if their purpose is tourism, vacation, shopping, business meetings or visiting friends and relatives.
Analyst Arjan Curi explained in Top Story that this decision came as a result of Albanians living in the US attracting their parents and the latter benefiting from pensions and social assistance from the US, which the State Department has decided to prohibit.
"I went to the US last year, there I met two brothers, these circus brothers, and they told me that they wanted to introduce me to Albanians. And in those places where I went, I only saw old people. This list shows that 41% of Albanian families receive social assistance. The first thing Albanians do when they go there is to bring their parents. An Albanian goes to the US and brings his mother. After 5 years, this woman who goes there also receives an American passport where she benefits from a pension.
There is a bus for the elderly there. They would pick them up from their homes and take them to an asylum set up by Albanians. They would stay until the afternoon and then the bus would pick them up and take them back to their homes. The moment the parents enter the US, you can't tell them not to apply for pension and health insurance. I don't think it's just a pension issue.
There were also autocratic states and enemy states, which have interests opposite to the US. Countries with a low level of democracy. The desire of citizens of these countries to flee to the US is very high and he sought to control this , "said Curi, among other things.
