Border crossing between Albania and Kosovo, movement regime without controls

The regime of movement without controls for vehicles with Albanian and Kosovar license plates has been restored at the border points between Albania and Kosovo. This regime entered into force on November 1 and will remain in force until the end of February next year.

During this period, border controls will only be applied to vehicles with foreign license plates, but with an expedited procedure, to avoid long queues and waits at common points, especially in Morina and Vermicë.

The no-check regime was restored after a one-month suspension in October, during which registration and checks of vehicles and passengers were carried out. Even during that period, on weekends and during official holidays, no checks were applied to citizens and vehicles with Albanian and Kosovo license plates.

The free movement agreement between the two countries aims to ease traffic and avoid heavy traffic at the border. It has yielded noticeable results, especially during the summer season, when the flow of travel increases significantly.

According to the agreement, the periods of movement without controls or with reduced controls are from May 1 to September 30, and from November 1 to February 28.

In total, citizens of Albania and Kosovo benefit from 9 months a year of a facilitated border crossing regime, while for the remaining 3 months (March, April and October) regular controls are implemented with the exception of weekends and official holidays of both countries./ A2CNN
