"I was going to Ioannina", Artan Hoxha tells how the Greeks informed

Journalist Artan Hoxha spoke about being banned from crossing Greek soil after being declared persona non grata and having to turn back.

At the passport control counter, he was told that he was not allowed to enter Greece, as he was considered a "threat to public order and internal security."

The journalist's passport was confiscated, a cross was placed on his entry stamp, and he was held for about an hour at the Greek Police premises. The document handed to him states that: "he has been characterized as an undesirable person; He is considered a danger to public order, internal security, public health or the international relations of one or more EU countries."

According to the communication made to Hoxha by the Greek Police, the decision to declare him "non grata" was made in early 2024, at a time when the Fredi Beleri case was raging in Albania.

Artan Hoxha told "TCH" that this decision did not surprise him. He said that he was traveling to Ioannina on Sunday morning when the border police asked him to cross the second control line because there was a criminal decision for him. The authorities explained that the decision came because "his positions as a journalist for years were against the interests of the Greek state."

This is not the only case of Albanian journalists being declared "persona non grata" by the Greek state. In 2012, the same sanction was imposed on journalist Marin Mema.
