A building damaged by the 2019 earthquake and uninhabited, located on "Aleksandër Gogo" street in Durrës, has become a dangerous place and a concern for the residents of this area as it has become a shelter for drug users and prostitutes , but apparently for the authorities such places are invisible and no measures are taken while the citizens have to face every day, not only the possible infections, but also the danger brought by the frequenters of these places.
Residents of the surrounding area say that they have also complained to the police about this building, in which, according to them, no one has ever lived, but for some time now it has been full of many residents and visitors. They say that in addition to the garbage, a very big concern is that these unidentified people consume narcotics and have become a danger to the neighborhood, because they stole and burned the second floor of this uninhabited building.
Some schoolgirls of the 9-year-old "Eftali Koço" school, which are only 10 minutes away from the palace, show that they are afraid when they pass by the abandoned palace.
The Fiks Fare camera entered the premises of this building, where the pollution was very high. The camera crew finds some drug users inside, who start shouting and demanding that the journalists leave.
One of them agrees to talk to the Fiksi journalist, saying that he was a drug user for many years. "
I have been using drugs for years, the police know what we do, they have never helped us. They arrested me, they keep me for 2-3 months, then they take me out again. I should not be arrested, but the narcotics seller", he says.
During this time, other people come from outside, who seem to be in a serious condition. One of the users starts and shouts from the other room asking us to get out.
"I asked for help to rehabilitate myself, but I never managed to get completely clean, as the institutions do not help us", reacts another boy. He holds a water bottle in his hand which he says he adapted to consume 'KRAK'. According to him, this is a different form of taking cocaine through burning with a can or pipe.
"I have been a crack user since the 1990s-1993s. I don't mind. Everyone knows that I consume it. I hurt no one but myself. I can't give up", he says.
One of the users tells us that in one of the rooms of this abandoned building there is also a lady, Ana, a drug user, but who practices prostitution.
Ana: The police are my clients
Fiks Fare's camera goes to the place that Ana had adapted as a home for herself. "ANA" is waiting for us at the door, according to her the name of the job. A 31-year-old woman, mother of three minor children.
Ana says that she is self-sheltered there, as she is alone and no one can help her.
"I left the children in the orphanage because I don't want to raise them here. I arranged the environment with things I found in the garbage. The users have also helped me to arrange the room. I have been raped several times, I have suffered a lot in my life and I am in this state because of my family", she says.
He says that he finds clients himself and that he does not have a tutor. Her clients are policemen, deputies.
When asked if the police ever caught him, he laughs and says: "The police?! They didn't bother me, I even have some of them as clients. They know that I have taken shelter here."
Durrës Police: We know that base, we have intervened several times.
Fiks Fare asked the local police directorate of Durrës if they have information about the return of the building damaged by the earthquake on Aleksandër Goga street to a shelter for drug users.
In its response, the Durrës local police Directorate indicates that this is a well-known object to them, and the police have even carried out continuous checks in that building from May to August 2024. The police response states that during this period they arrested two people who were sheltering in the abandoned building, after they had broken the house arrest order, several drug users were escorted twice, people who are being processed at large by the Prosecutor's Office and a drug distributor was caught.
Although the police have carried out periodic checks, no one has been able to close this shelter for users, nor to remove them from that place that has become a danger for the residents of the neighborhood./TCH
