Analyst Ben Andoni spoke today about the missing Democratic Party primaries and the diaspora vote. Andoni said that the Democratic Party primaries should have been held in December.
"You find such elements in the DP's statements. They have not been approved. They are unclear about their continuity in Mr. Berisha. Some have passed like Bardhi and Gjekmarkaj. Keep in mind that their words were not without basis. I say with conviction that the DP will hold primaries, even for appearances. You cannot ignore the statute. You can say that the statute has not worked. If it had worked, they would not have split. The same thing with the SP, the statute works but the leaders are above everything. What Bardhi says has to do with the purity of the primaries. The primaries should have been over in December. And they should have worked for the elections. That has not happened. The unification of the DP has not happened yet.
People with careers, who are ambitious, like Bardhi, I think that in the coming weeks, until the naming problem crystallizes, there will be such expressions, until they have shared that they are Berisha's confidants. Some have received messages from foreigners. Mr. Bardhi has been part of our delegations for a long time. His path in politics is longer than Berisha's path. He is fighting in his last mandate, if the court does not interrupt him. Mr. Bardhi is on the rise in his career. Bardhi loves his country, the sacrifice that he made in joining Berisha will be rewarded", said Andoni.
The DP should have already indicated the people with whom Berisha will run on May 11th.
"It should have been done at least in December. The DP does not have the luxury of the SP, which operates with its own administration. The DP had to show the public that it is committed to the statute and to releasing names. People want to be identified, including people close to Berisha," the analyst said on Report TV.
Regarding the emigrant vote, Ben Andoni believes that the registrations so far on the portal are from DP and SP militants in the diaspora and the flow will decrease in the coming days.
"I believe that the flow of registrations will decrease. The militants' engagement will continue for a few more days. The majority will be negligent. The SP, with its great work in the diaspora, will manage to identify the characters and will receive its results. The DP has only one emissary for the diaspora. Mr. Berisha has taken the weight. It is very few people. The part registered at the beginning is clearly the militants' part. The rest are much more negligent. Because they do not know how much of their vote will be made possible", Andoni said.
He further underlines that the diaspora deserved several seats in parliament, however, democracy in Albania will take a breather when new parties secure parliamentary mandates to at least somewhat limit the power of the future majority.
"These are the first diaspora elections. If an earlier electoral code would have given them 4 seats in parliament, Albanian associations in the diaspora would have been more interested. This is a first step. It also brings out that part of our state. This state organizes the elections. It tries to show that it respects the vote. In other elections, the opposition will be more attentive to channeling their vote fairly. We do not have the concept of justice that the vote of every Albanian serves a great purpose. The diaspora associations themselves should have created a federation. I think that the only chance for Albanian democracy is if the new parties have a place in the great parliament and will have the opportunity to condition the future government," he said.
