The first hearing on the merits of the case against Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj will take place today at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, following the decision to separate the case involving 11 defendants in the same file.
Earlier, the GJKKO had ordered SPAK to make all investigative acts available to Veliaj. However, according to the defense's claims, the mayor has still not received 24 of the 61 files that make up the investigative file.
Meanwhile, the court has decided to suspend the detention terms for Veliaj, who remains the only defendant in this process who is in custody.
Today's hearing is expected to mark the start of the substantive examination of the case, while the defense and prosecution will present their positions regarding the procedure and the evidence administered in the file.
