Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the former American president, Donald Trump, confirmed that he is very close to reaching some business agreements in Albania and Serbia.
"We are very excited. We have not yet finalized these agreements, so maybe they cannot be realized, but we have worked very hard and are very close", said Kushner in an interview for the "New York Times".
Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, have stayed away from Donald Trump's political activity since the attack on the Capitol in January of 2021, but according to the "NYT", these business relationships in the Balkans began when Trump was in the House Bardhë, where he hopes to return in January 2025.
According to the "NYT", Kushner has collaborated with Richard Grenell to establish ties in the Balkans, where the former US ambassador to Germany has served as Trump's special envoy for the region.
One of the businesses is said to be the development of the island of Sazan in our country, to turn it into a tourist destination. While in Belgrade, it is planned to build a luxury hotel with 1,500 units and a museum, exactly in the place where the central headquarters of the Yugoslav army was located, destroyed by NATO in 1999.
In both cases, the land on which the projects will be developed is state-owned, so the agreements must be concluded with representatives of the Albanian and Serbian governments.
"NYT" reports that a third project involves the construction of a luxury resort in Zvrnec, with hotels and villas.
Kushner participates in these projects through his investment firm, "Affinity Partners", which, among other things, has received 2 billion dollars from the Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The NYT reports that Kushner set up the investment company after leaving the White House, but used connections made while serving as an adviser to his father-in-law to attract funds, such as those with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. , Mohammed bin Salman, who de facto rules the country.
But, when asked by "NYT" about these connections, he said: "No one is giving me business deals. Those investments will create added value for local communities, our partners and investors."
Kushner and Ivanka Trump have visited our country twice since Trump left office. In both cases, they were accompanied by Grenell and even met with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Regarding his projects in Albania, the Albanian Ministry of Tourism and Environment told VOA that Mr. Kushner's company has submitted an application to the Investment Development Agency "for a tourism project on the island of Sazan, like many applications that are made by foreign investors, and the good news is that tourism has already entered the sectors of interest of foreign investors, not only Albanians. But according to the law, the project must go through several levels of review, before decisions are made, but still, until today, such a project has not yet come to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment".
In its explanation, the Ministry states that "there have been interests and requests for tourism development on the island of Sazan before, which undoubtedly coincides in principle with our ambition to turn the island into a jewel in the crown of Mediterranean tourism, but we have rejected, because we have not considered the development objectives of the interested parties in accordance with the vision of a tourism that is friendly to the environment and nature, a necessary balance for the tourism Albania of the 2030 vision".
In the case of Zvërnec, the ministry said that it is not aware of such a project, adding that "every proposal and effort to invest in Albania is welcome. The Albanian government has not hidden its ambition to promote and facilitate quality investments in excellence tourism and 5-star hotels, with international standards. Every serious investor who comes, moreover from strategic allied countries of Albania such as the USA, has the door open to contribute to the qualitative growth of tourism and high standards in this vital sector for the country's economy".
