Meteorology Lajda Porja has made the weather forecast for the month of June, since we are still two days away from the official entry into the summer season.
Next month, according to the meteorologist, the thermometer will reach up to 37 degrees Celsius, these figures are abnormal for the first month of summer, but influenced by an air mass that lies in the Mediterranean and comes from sub-Saharan Africa.
"We are only two days from the official start of the summer season and it is starting in the last days of May with temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius. Summer starts very wild with temperatures. It is expected that in the first days of June we will have a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. Very quickly, even in mountainous areas, the thermometer climbs to 30 degrees Celsius. We have an air mass coming at us from the Sub-Saharan, way down in Africa. It is a fairly hot and dry air mass coming from the Eastern Mediterranean. At the beginning of June, normality would be at 31 or 32 degrees, but we expect around 37 degrees Celsius", said Porja for A2CNN.
But despite starting with temperatures above 35 degrees Celcius, the meteorologist stressed that this year's summer will be milder compared to last year.
"In the last 10 years, we have not had long, hot and dry summers, but scorching ones. This summer won't be like that even though it starts off so wild. And it will not be like that for the whole European continent. The most affected part will be the Iberian Peninsula and southwestern Europe, including the Balkans. Greece and Turkey, along with the Balkans, will have the hottest summer. The summer of 2024 from all signals from all forecast centers means that it will not be at all like the year before. It will be milder, more moderate," the meteorologist said.
Porja explained that mercury will turn red in June and the first 20 days of July, with temperatures then dropping in August, bringing rain.
"We expect that mid-June to near the end of July will be the period with the maximum activity of temperatures and heat in Europe and the Balkans. Beyond July we will return to the expression August and Guna. It will be an August with a smoother thermal field, not drastic jumps like in June and July. There are signs of rain. The peak of summer is expected to be June until July 20-25. After that, the gradual decline begins," said Porja.
