A new report from the organization Oil Change International shows that Albania is one of the 11 countries that supply fuel to Israel, despite the recent decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which states that Israel's actions in Gaza can be considered genocide.
The report, titled "Behind the Barrel: New Data on the Countries and Companies Behind Israel's Fuel Supply," highlights that oil shipments continue to support Israel's military operations in Gaza and the destruction of Palestinian homes in the West Bank.
Among the main suppliers are the USA, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Vladimir Putin's Russia. Albania ranks fourth on the list, after the USA, Russia and Brazil, as a supplier of refined oil, which is mainly used to fuel fighter jets and bulldozers.
The report does not specify whether Albania is one of the main suppliers of fuel for fighter jets or for heavy vehicles. However, he points out that Albania has supplied Israel more than some other large countries, such as Greece and Italy.
Oil Change International tracked 65 fuel shipments to Israel to reach these conclusions, with the last shipments reported in July 2024.
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Gabon are among the largest suppliers, supplying about 75% of Israel's oil needs.
One of the most important aspects of this report is that fuel suppliers can be considered legally involved in war crimes and genocide, being aware of the serious consequences of using this fuel in Israeli military operations.
