The number of car accidents during 2023 increased by almost 600 more than a year ago. National emergency statistics show that this year there were an average of 11 accidents per day, compared to 9 per day last year.
" In terms of car, bicycle or pedestrian trauma, there were 3,858 accidents during 2023, while in 2022 there were 3,293 accidents. The most typical month is August, with more accidents ," said the doctor.

The National Emergency Ambulances are the first to arrive at the scene and according to the head of this center, Dr. Skënder Brata, mobility has increased due to the increase in tourism, where accidents by foreigners have been recorded in quite a few cases.
" The number of 10 million foreigners in Albania has just passed, and they too have had consequences with accidents, often even fatalities ," said Brataj.
In addition to disobeying traffic rules, one of the causes of the high number of accidents is the use of the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and narcotic substances, for which Brataj emphasizes that people consuming narcotic substances must be registered in order to have their license revoked.
" A register should also be made, where users of substances are registered. Such a person should not have a license, until it is proven through analysis that he is not a user ", he said.
Dr. Brataj calls on citizens to be as careful as possible during these holidays, where there is increased movement, especially in the capital./ TCH
