RTSH in debt, public television has 6 million euros in liabilities; Eni Vasili

SP-PD together again to help Eni Vasili...

Public Radio and Television seems to have been a hotbed of abuse for years. Even though the state provides millions in funds and also earns large sums from decoders and citizen fees, RTSH still comes out with losses.

After being appointed to the head of the television with much fanfare and the help of the DP and the SP, Eni Vasili has now asked for their help to pull the television out of the abyss. Vasili's predecessors have been involved in endless fraud and RTSH has 6 million euros in liabilities.

Today, a roundtable discussion brought together the leaders of Radio Television Albania (RTSH) with representatives of the parliamentary media committee and the AMA, media experts, representatives of civil society, as well as local and foreign organizations.

The need for a sustainable reform was underlined by the chairman of the RTSH Steering Council, Fatjon Hoxholli. According to him, RTSH urgently needs a new financing formula. The deputy chairman of the Steering Council, Petrit Beci, who previously headed RTSH, also expressed the same opinion.

Focusing on the financial situation, Beci said that the central problem is that RTSH currently has 6 million euros in debt and it is growing daily.

Meanwhile, Eni Vasili warned that there will be a total restructuring of RTSH, which means that we could have a storm of layoffs. She also asked for better salaries. So even though RTSH is in debt, the director is asking for better financial treatment.

RTSH staff should be treated with more dignity, improved working conditions and better financial treatment. Meanwhile, RTSH should return to its historical role as a media school that forms and prepares new generations... Each RTSH channel should have a well-defined thematic profile, to guarantee clarity for the public and to increase the impact on the relevant audience segments. In line with best European practices for public media, it is necessary that the structuring for RTSH follows the 2 plus 7 model; two general basic channels, namely RTSH 1 and RTSH 2, and 7 thematic channels with clear functions, where each channel has a dedicated identity and program structure. A programming based on formats that focus on daily information and current topics from Monday to Friday will better reflect the required standards ”, said Vasili.

Meanwhile, the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party have once again come together to support Eni Vaisli. The chair and vice-chair of the Media Commission, Ina Zhupa and Evis Kushi, unanimously expressed their agreement in support of the project of a new spirit at RTSH.
