Scenes from the protest

Thousands of protesters have gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office in what is considered one of the largest rallies since the movement began. While the Prime Minister and the government have stepped up their attacks on the protest, participation appears to be growing by the day.

The civic protest has entered its ninth day today, as thousands of citizens gathered at Skanderbeg Square and then marched towards the Prime Minister's Office, once again turning the boulevard into the center of civic discontent.

What is striking is that, unlike what usually happens with prolonged protests, participation is not only not declining, but is actually increasing. According to participants, today's rally may be among the largest since the movement began.

This is happening at a time when Prime Minister Edi Rama and representatives of the majority have increased efforts to minimize the protest, linking it to disinformation, political interests or external influences. Rama has even gone so far as to mock the protesters and attack public figures who support the revolt.

But today's footage shows that these attacks do not seem to be producing the desired effect. On the contrary, the more the protest is attacked, ridiculed, or labeled, the more citizens are joining it.

On its ninth day, the protest seems to have already transcended the boundaries of its initial cause. What began in Zvërnec as opposition to a specific project is increasingly taking on the characteristics of a movement against the entire political caste that has dominated the country for decades.

This is also demonstrated by the chants heard today in front of the Prime Minister's Office. "Rama go away", "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison" and "Down with the political caste" are the slogans that dominate the protest, shifting the focus from a local issue to a broader opposition to the political class.

Another striking element is the extent of the mobilization. Citizens from different parts of the country are participating in the protest, which shows that the movement is transcending the boundaries of a local reaction and is taking on national proportions.

Even the day before, after the rally ended, protesters marched for several hours on the streets of Tirana, showing that the energy of the movement remains high. Today, with an even greater turnout, the message coming out of the boulevard seems clear: despite attacks, mockery or attempts to delegitimize it, the protest is not retreating.

On the contrary, on her ninth day, she looks bigger than ever.
