Analyst Mentor Kikia has expressed that former Prime Minister Sali Berisha may be satisfied with the "house arrest" security measure that is expected to be taken against him.
Kikia made the comments on the show "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews Albania, where she said that this is the best opportunity for Berisha to withdraw, since he failed to stimulate citizen reaction and protests, for the issues he raised in the Assembly.
He said that the opposition action had been stuck at the same point for some time and could no longer continue.
“The reform in Justice was undertaken by actors outside of Albanian politics, in a country where impunity was in dire alarm. It is being implemented in a country where, among other things, politics and politicians who have been controlling this business for 3 decades, despite suspicions of affairs, continue to be the same actors. Shouldn't we be surprised when we say why politicians should leave Albania even with criminal cases?
I am getting into conspiracy theories, I think that even Berisha himself may be satisfied with this measure. Because the DP's political action had reached an impasse. For weeks he continued with the same methodology, go to Parliament, overturn the chairs. Berisha will retire, I say, and there is no better way to retire than this, to lock him up at home. Berisha was unable to instigate that mass citizen response, to force the government to meet the demands that were almost ready to force Rama to leave. So either he would turn off the cigarettes and surrender, or he would go to this point", said Kikia.
