Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu has stated that the measure for the arrest of former prime minister Sali Berisha comes from SPAK with the support of the USA.
Spahiu made the comments through a link to the "Now" show on Euronews Albania, where he said that the ultimate goal is not to imprison Berisha, but to remove him from the political scene. He also said that after Berisha there will be other figures who will be hit by justice.
“In the legal provisions, prison and house arrest are explicitly defined. The obligation to present is not expressed that it should be requested of the Parliament, but it is said that any restriction of freedom falls under this part. I remain of the position that SPAK should have addressed the Assembly from the beginning. I think that either the internationals, whether SPAK, whether the Assembly, have tested step by step the reaction it would give. When they did not see any protest being organized, when they did not see the people coming out to support the opposition, they gradually continued to the further stages in their claim that Berisha himself is forcing them to take a stronger measure.
So leave the ball and the political bill to Berisha. Even "prison arrest" and "house arrest" they will choose the latter, because they are making criminal policy. The aim was not to imprison Berisha, but to remove him from politics. It is no coincidence that the request to change the insurance measure comes after 24 hours after the diplomatic declaration of the US Embassy. I think not only that. After the request to change the measure against Berisha, I think there will be other decisions. I think that for Mr. Meta there will be a decision on the initiation of the criminal case", said Spahiu.
