Sazani on Trump's son-in-law, 'generous' Rama: Not only the

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in an interview with French media, also spoke about the island of Sazani, which is being negotiated with Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.

Rama even states that it is not just about the island, which he said will be an innovation for the entire Mediterranean, but also for part of the territory in front of it.

" Not yet, but we are working, negotiating for the island, but also for the project as a whole, which includes not only the island, but also part of the territory opposite it. And I can tell you that the project is improving day by day. If we manage to implement it as we have envisaged, it will be an absolute innovation in the Mediterranean and a model to follow from a sustainability point of view ," Rama said.

Kushner's project has raised many questions, while not only in Albania, but also in the US, doubts have been raised regarding the procedures, this due to the fact that he is the son-in-law of the US President. The doubts raised are related to the fact that Prime Minister Rama could translate this 'situation' into political support from the Trump administration.

In the interview with TV5 Monde, Rama spoke about integration issues, international developments, but also about Minister Diella.

Asked about Albania's membership in the European Union, Rama said that we are at a very advanced and optimistic stage.

" We are in full negotiations and have opened 5 out of 6 main groups of chapters. We hope to open the sixth one as well, which would be an absolute record in speed. This is also related to the fact that Europe, from the point of view of enlargement, which I call 'repunification', has woken up. And this, in a way, is also thanks to the war in Ukraine, which showed the need for a more united and stronger Europe ," Rama said.

The French journalist also asked Prime Minister Rama about artificial intelligence and Minister Diella.

" As for the minister, she is working, she is doing very well. She is 'pregnant' with 83 future sons and daughters, who will be 'assistants' of our parliamentary group for artificial intelligence. So, 83 people who will have the task of helping the deputies, assisting them when they are absent from parliamentary sessions, for example ," Rama emphasized.

During the interview in the French television studio, Edi Rama said that world diplomacy is facing a deep crisis, just like Europe, and called for a "renaissance of diplomacy."

Journalist: Mr. Prime Minister, you know, whether it's about the climate or the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. There's less and less room for multilateralism, and it's the law of force. How do we reverse this trend?

Prime Minister Rama: This is the problem. And if we are talking about peace, and if we are holding a forum dedicated to peace here in Paris, then we should reflect on a very simple fact, and in my opinion, a very important fact: that Europe itself does not yet have its own peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. This does not mean that what we are doing with the aid fund for Ukraine, or with the fund that supports the military strength of Europe, is not right, but it means that it cannot go in this direction alone, because it seems as if diplomacy is dead, and now only the drumbeat of war remains. This is unacceptable.

Journalist: To truly get out of this conflict that has been going on for four years, a diplomatic approach is needed. Albania has submitted its candidacy for membership in the European Union. However, the official status of candidate country was only recommended in October 2012, as at that time democracy was still considered unstable. Albania has made progress since then, how is the situation currently?

Prime Minister Rama: Yes, we are at a very advanced stage in terms of what you just mentioned. We are in negotiations. We have opened 5 out of 6 group chapters and we hope to open the sixth one, which would be an absolute record in terms of speed. This is also related to the fact that Europe, from the point of view of enlargement, I prefer to call it 'unification', is experiencing an awakening. The war in Ukraine showed, among other things, the need for a more united and stronger Europe.

Journalist: We're running out of time, so just one last question, maybe a little delicate. Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, wants to build a luxury resort on one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, in your country, with lush, green vegetation - one of your most precious natural assets. Has he received permission from your government?

Prime Minister Rama: Not yet, but we are negotiating on this. We are also working on the project that includes not only the island, but also part of the territory in front of it. I can tell you that the project is improving every day, and if we manage to implement it as we have envisioned, it will be an absolute innovation for the Mediterranean and a model to follow in terms of sustainability.
