The United States of America and the European Union have sent another message to justice that the fight against corruption is a life and death battle.
According to their representatives in our country, if justice does not hit the untouchables, there will be no future for Albania and Albanians.
The statements came at "Balkanomics," a regional conference co-organized by USAID dedicated to strengthening economic competitiveness in the region. During a panel discussion moderated by USAID/Albania Director Mischere Kawas, US Chargé d'Affaires David Wisner and EU Ambassador Gonzato discussed Albania's path to EU membership, the EU Growth Plan and the role of reform. in justice in promoting sustainable economic growth. According to them, the US-EU partnership provides continuous support for Albania's journey towards a more democratic, safer and prosperous future.
" Justice must avoid corruption and not allow misuse of public goods ", said Silvio Gonzato, EU Ambassador to Albania.
" Justice that treats everyone equally is essential. This is something we all agree on and it is crucial ," said David Wisner, the US chargé d'affaires in Tirana.
According to the EU ambassador, when each of the steps is fulfilled, there is a certain amount of money that is spent in the interest of Albania. He added that the membership process is long and requires a lot of work. “ You may have put in a lot of effort, and the benefits are difficult to manage. The more you move towards the EU, the more countries will integrate economically. To tell the truth, Albania is still an isolated market. We must promote the economic cooperation of the Balkan countries first ", said Gonzato.
While the US ambassador said that their work in our country focuses on defense, democracy and business. He also stopped at justice. " We have been focused on justice reform and we have seen extraordinary progress in justice. The war in Ukraine has changed many things. It is imperative that the Western Balkans be part of the EU. The growth plan is a great symbol because it has the potential to bring enormous progress and will increase the Balkans' steps towards the EU ," Wisner emphasized.
The "Balkonomics" Regional Conference gathered in Tirana about 28 international leaders and experts from the United States of America, the European Union and the Region.
