Veliaj's dismissal, Ngjela: What if he is acquitted in court, what happens?

Lawyer Spartak Ngjela spoke about the most important political development of today, the proposal of the Tirana Municipal Council to dismiss Mayor Erion Veliaj.

Ngjela stated that Veliaj's dismissal, at a time when there is no final sentence imposed on him by the court, calls into question the justice regarding the decision taken today by the Municipal Council.

"The discussion is: do they have the right to dismiss the president elected by the people? Yes, the president, if they make a political decision, has the right to take it to court. I don't know how he will act. I'm talking in legal terms. Where was the PS's overreach here? He didn't wait for the sentence to become final. What if he is found not guilty for trial, what happens? Who will go to prison? You understand how legal issues are unnecessarily complicated ," Ngjela told "Report TV".

Ngjela expressed his conviction that if early elections are held, the next mayor of Tirana will also be from the ranks of the Socialist Party.

" They are not overthrown. Who will overthrow them, please? Where is their power? The leader of the other party is non grata in America, the conversation is over. They don't even have votes, they have lost them deeply. Has this blow to Velija damaged the Socialist Party? I don't believe they have damaged it," concluded Ngjela.
