Officers take the crowd by surprise after Molotov cocktails, using rubber batons, tear gas, and pepper spray; some injured people end up in hospital
The Democratic Party's protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office has escalated into violent clashes between police and protesters, where the intervention of law enforcement was accompanied by the use of force and dispersal means.
According to developments on the ground, immediately after the speech of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, a group of protesters threw fireworks and Molotov cocktails towards the Prime Minister's Office. At that moment, the police intervened immediately and in a coordinated manner from several directions, catching the people who were throwing the pyrotechnic devices by surprise and neutralizing them.
From the footage obtained from the scene, the intervention of special forces and the "Eagles" is clearly visible, who enter the crowd and physically clash with the protesters. The video shows officers using physical force to lay on the ground and neutralize various people.
During the intervention, according to reports from the field, the police used rubber batons against the protesters, as well as threw pepper spray at them, causing injuries. Tear gas and pressurized water were also used to disperse the crowd.
Several opposition representatives are also reported to be among the injured. The pepper spray has seriously affected MP Flamur Noka, as well as Luçiano Boçi, Aulon Kalanë and Klevis Balliu. According to preliminary information, Boçi, Balliu and Kalaja have been taken to hospital for medical assistance. Several ordinary citizens have also been injured.
The police intervention has also brought strong tensions with Democratic Party MPs, who have opposed the actions of the officers on the ground.
Footage from the scene shows moments of violence and direct clashes, where protesters and officers are in physical contact, while the situation remains tense.
