The Albanian army has joined the arms race. The government has proposed a long-term strategy for the revival of this sector, where it is thinking that until 2033 it will spend up to 181 billion ALL or 1.8 billion euros.
For the first time in this year's budget, the Albanian government fulfilled its obligation as a member of NATO by spending 2% of its GDP for the strengthening of the army, while in the strategy issued for public consultation, it is foreseen that this rate will be maintained every year. until it reaches 2.83% of GDP in 2033.
In the renaissance of the army, the number of active combat forces is expected to increase by 100, but beyond that, the government will invest in modern weapons that include unmanned drones, the creation of the anti-drone system or the purchase of new Black Hawk helicopters. From the estimated value of the investments, the Air Force will receive the largest funds, followed by the naval and then land ones, while not even the support command is left behind.
The strategy includes a revival of the military bases where it is expected that investments will be made in the garrisons of Zall-Herr, Ferraj and Pezë Helmës. Also, the construction of training infrastructure in Pajet, Biza and Mnela is foreseen. The list of investments also includes the development of port and airport hosting and accommodation infrastructure in Porto Romano and the Pashaliman naval base. In addition to the NATO base in Kuçovo, the Farka Air Base is also expected to be modernized.
An important aspect is the investment in military cyber defense where one of the most important projects is the establishment of the "Secret NATO" system that puts Albania on the same level of technology as the allies. /Top channel
