The State Police has officially reacted regarding the protest announced by the Democratic Party, which is expected to take place today at 6:00 PM in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
According to the announcement, representatives of the Democratic Party have informed the Tirana Police about the organization of the rally on February 28, 2026. However, the authorities indicate that, referring to the incidents recorded in the previous protest, they do not undertake to guarantee its development.
The police emphasize that during the previous rally, acts of violence, the use of dangerous means against officers, the participation of masked persons, and the involvement of minors were recorded. They also say that there is information about the possibility of similar situations recurring.
The statement states that, despite the response given to the political entity, Tirana Police has taken measures to guarantee public order and security in the capital, to protect state institutions, and to ensure the free movement of citizens and vehicles, in the event that the rally is held.
"Representatives of the political entity Democratic Party of Albania have notified the Tirana Police of the holding of a rally, on 28.02.2026, at 18:00, in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
Given the incidents that occurred during the previous rally, where acts of violence and the use of dangerous means against police officers were evidenced, the participation of masked persons and the use of minors in the rally, as well as the information provided on the possibility of repeating such actions, the Tirana Police has responded to the political entity that it does not undertake to guarantee the development of the rally.
Regardless of the response received, the Tirana Police, in fulfillment of its functional duties, has taken all measures to guarantee public order and security in the city of Tirana, the protection of state institutions, as well as the free movement of vehicles and citizens, in the event that the rally takes place.
"The Tirana Police appeal to citizens that, if they encounter violent actions, they should distance themselves and denounce any illegality they observe," the police announced.
