Expert Fatjon Softa spoke about the police operation to crack down on drug trafficking between Italy and Albania.
Police have seized 900 kg of marijuana transported by boat from Vlora to Puglia, 10 kg of hashish and many doses of heroin. In addition, 147 people have been arrested in flagrante delicto and 90 thousand euros in cash have been seized.
Softa stressed that it remains to be seen who they are and how far the activities of this criminal group extend. He also stated that the level of involvement of powerful people is typical for these events and the criminal activity of these groups, where law enforcement officers are also involved, remains very worrying.
Softa also tells of a case where a police officer at "Kodra e Diellit" was found with 120 thousand euros inside a luxury vehicle.
"In some cases, people have been seen to be present not only in Albanian territory, but also in other territories, starting from Latin America. In this activity, it is reported that there was also a person in Albanian territory who turns out to be detained in Albanian prisons.
All those successful international operations have been those that have been coordinated and co-organized with international partners. And these operations have had long-term and in-depth investigations, so they have gone straight to arrests.
Because there is involvement, where there are not a few cases where police officers have been involved or organized the groups that have been arrested, there have been cases when a police officer at "Kodra e Diellit" was found with 120 thousand euros inside a luxury car, which is money taken from these criminal activities.
"And this has been highlighted by SPAK itself, where the level of involvement of powerful people is typical for these events and the criminal activity of these groups, where law enforcement officers are also involved, remains very worrying," he told "Ora News".
