
Young people in the Western Balkans are cannabis users. This narcotic was the most frequent response, followed by over-the-counter antidepressant medications at 22% and cocaine at 21%.
Over 65% of those who reported using cannabis stated that they had used it “to reduce stress” or “to relax”.
The European Drugs Agency highlighted the data, part of which were young people over 18 years old, from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, reports "Euronews Albania".
Only 3% had received treatment for drug addiction. The survey was conducted in 30 languages between May and July 2024 and included, according to the Agency, over 66,000 Europeans from 31 countries who answered questions online.
About 84% of respondents who reported using the narcotic substance “ecstasy,” which they found at festivals, and over 50% who reported using cocaine, amphetamine, and ketamine, stated that they had used these substances “for fun.” Cocaine was most commonly used in bars or clubs.
