Journalist Osman Stafa spoke at the citizens' protest against the government, focusing on the dire situation in the healthcare system and shortages in hospitals.
From the protest tribune, Stafa said that tests are stopped in hospitals after the 20th of each month, while the Oncology Hospital, according to him, lacks medicines and equipment for the treatment of cancer patients.
He also mocked statements about foreign influence in the protests, asking whether "foreign agencies" are responsible for the shortage of medicines, rising prices, low pensions, and the departure of Albanians from the country.
"After the 20th of every month, tests are stopped in hospitals. They started yesterday that for two months, tests were not stopped due to public pressure. Can you imagine being hospitalized and having routine tests stopped? Today, there is no medicine in the Oncology Department. There is no equipment to treat cancer, and these are the ones who tell us that it is the foreign agencies that are organizing the protests. Did the foreign agencies leave the hospitals without medicine and equipment, depopulate this country, raise food prices, and leave pensions so low?" said Stafa.
The journalist stated that the protest was not called by political parties, but by the daily problems of citizens.
"Therefore, this square is the most beautiful resistance that has ever happened to this country. This people was not called by the party, but by Albania for the many problems that we face every day. Our strength is the resistance in this square. Let us not get tired, because these people never get tired of stealing concessions, money that should have gone to hospitals," he continued.
The staff also said that citizens are being forced to pay for health services that they should receive from the state.
"They have left the hospital without medicine. A state that does not work to provide treatment for the patient. The system has collapsed. Who among you has gone to the hospital and paid money for the service, raise your hand?
We can't continue like this because we will pay for it. Albania has no protocols. You go to the hospital, get examined, go home and die," the journalist declared.
He also mentioned the protest announced for July 4, calling on citizens and the diaspora to join the rally.
"They have the Garden of Eden of 4.3 million euros. They have money for their pleasures, and they don't have money for medicine. Can you manage with the salaries you receive to make it in Albania, to build the future of your children?
Our truth must gather everyone in the square because it is for us. A big protest has been announced for July 4th. The diaspora must be here again," concluded Osman Stafa.
