GJKKO has narrowed the 'loop' for the Gërdec tragedy, where the son of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Shkëlzen Berisha, will be questioned today...
For the first time, Shkëlzen Berisha, the son of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, will testify at the GJKKO about the process of the Gërdec tragedy.
The session is expected to start at 09.00 and together with Shkëlzen Berisha, the former Minister of Justice Aldo Bumçi will be interrogated.
The call of Shkëlzen Berisha in the same session with Aldo Bumçi is related to the fax that the latter sent to the Minister of Defense of the time, Fatmir Mediu, with the note "for Shkëlzen Berisha", in the upper part of the document on the left side. In addition to this document, the son of the former prime minister is also expected to be questioned about meetings with the ministers of the time in the Berisha government and a phone call with Fatmir Mediu immediately after the explosion in Gërdec, where 26 people lost their lives and over 300 were injured.
The fax from 2007, where Shkëlzen Berisha's name is written, was the Ministry of Justice's approval opinion for the draft government decision prepared by the Ministry of Defense, for the dismantling of the ammunition in Gërdec. On January 26, 2023, Shkëlzen Berisha and Aldo Bumçi were also questioned during preliminary investigations by the prosecution, while in court they close the first list of 52 witnesses.
In addition to Shkëlzen Berisha and the former Minister of Justice Aldo Bumçi, 5 other witnesses who were scheduled for the session on December 7 will appear before the court. Plarent Ruka, Sokrat Papadhima, Liza Maksuti, Alma Zili and Anjola Agolli are expected to give explanations before the court. Anjola Agolli is the former secretary of the Minister of Justice Aldo Bumçi, who admitted to the prosecutors that faxes were sent from the Ministry of Justice to the Ministry of Defense from the office of the Codification Directorate regarding the Gërdeci case.
In the process for Gërdec, the second part of the list is expected to be questioned, which includes former officials and military men previously accused in the case, including the former Chief of Staff Luan Hoxha, who has been outside Albania since 2012.
The history of Fax
This is the fax that Aldo Bumçi sent from his office, to an office in the Ministry of Defense where Shkëlzen Berisha worked informally for the Gërdec project. The fax is a photocopy of the official "Memo" that Bumçi, as the Minister of Justice, responded to the Ministry of Defense, to approve the procedure for the concession of Gërdec with VKM by the government. But in order to inform Shkëlzen in parallel, that "everything is in order", a photocopy of the "Memo", he put the note above "For Shkëlzen Berisha" and sent it to a fax number that corresponds to the protocol in the Ministry of Protection.
Aldo Bumçi's secretary, in her testimony at the Prosecutor's Office given at the time when she was investigated, admits that she started the fax on behalf of Bumçi and saw Shkëlzen Berisha enter Bumçi's office twice at that time. The Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Anila Lala, admits that she received the fax from the Ministry of Justice and when she received it, the note "For Shkëlzen Berisha" was on top of the fax.
She took him to an office, where she thought she could take Shkëlzen Berisha. So the whole informal path has been clear. Everyone reported to Berisha's son.
