The Mayor of Maliq has reacted after the serious incident that shook the city of Maliq, where Merjeme Azizllari and her 14-year-old son, L. Azizllari, lost their lives as a result of smoke asphyxiation in their apartment. Meanwhile, the minor girl, 6 years old, is in serious condition in hospital.
Mayor Gëzim Topçiu described the event as shocking and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
"In these moments of deep pain, the Municipality of Maliq expresses its most sincere condolences to the families and stands by them in this difficult situation. Such events remind us how fragile life is and how important it is to be close to each other in difficult days," he writes.
Meanwhile, it is announced that the Municipality will cover all expenses related to the tragic incident.
We recall that the 6-year-old girl, the only survivor of the tragedy, was urgently transported to the Tirana University Hospital in critical condition, due to multiple burns to her body.
The serious incident occurred this afternoon at around 1:30 PM, in block no. 3, Maliq. Initially, it was reported that the mother and her two children had been injured, but it was later learned that the woman, Merjeme Azizllari, had died as a result of asphyxiation inside the house.
Later, her eldest son, 14 years old, also died in the hospital, while the 6-year-old remains in serious condition as a result of burns.
The causes that led to the apartment being engulfed in flames are not yet known, while fire services and police are at the scene as they have launched investigations into the circumstances of the incident.
