The former socialist mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici, who was arrested on Saturday at the request of SPAK, will appear today before the Special Court, where security measures will be assigned to him.
Despite the fact that SPAK initially started investigations mainly related to the charge of "Abuse of duty" after the publication of the video scandal, the charge of "Passive corruption" provided for by Article 260 of the Criminal Code has been aggravated for Gjici, as his conversation was highlighted in the full video published with the woman he was having sex with, for a tender for the sterilization of dogs.
Meanwhile, Gjici risks up to 7 years in prison with this charge, but that depends on how the case against him will go. After the arrest of Safet Gjic, the woman who appeared in the sexual video in the municipality office was placed under "House Arrest".
The investigation against Gjici started on June 16, 2023, immediately after a video was published in the media where Safet Gjici appeared in his office having sexual relations with Alma Kaçi.
Initially, an investigation was launched against him for the accusation of abuse of office, while after the publication of the second part of the video where Alma appeared while asking Gjici for a tender for her dog association, SPAK has started investigations for corruption.
SPAK suspects that Safet Gjici has favored Alma Kaçi by offering him financial support, by decision of the Municipal Council, on a project for housing and caring for stray dogs in the city.
Both have claimed that they had an intimate relationship with each other before talking to the state office about tenders and favors and after they had sexual relations.
