The decision to dismiss the mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici after the sexual scandal continues to be only declarative.
Neither on the website of the Council of Ministers nor in the Official Journal has such an act been disclosed by the Albanian executive, although it was publicly announced that such an action had been undertaken. This official act is necessary in the organization of early elections for the Municipality of Kukës.
The legal procedure provides that the Council of Ministers must officially notify the office of the President of the Republic and then the latter must decree a date for early local elections: "In the event of termination of the mandate, for the reasons provided for in Article 115 of the Constitution , the elections are held no earlier than 30 days and no later than 45 days from the date of notification of termination of the mandate".
In addition to Kukës, there will be elections again in the Municipality of Rrogozhina where, unlike the case of Safet Gjic, for this municipality there was no certification of the final result because the Electoral College found invalidity in a voting center that affected the final result, which means that the elections for this unit, they were never completed and the CEC has the right to set the date, where according to the draft decision, the date is expected to be July 23.
