The State Police reacted to the arrest of former president Ilir Meta. Footage of his arrest caused a stir, as he was forcibly removed from the car. The police say that the court order was communicated to Meta, but he refused to obey, he even insulted and attacked the officers and they were then forced to take them by force.
Police reaction
With the obligation to the public opinion regarding the way of accompanying the IM citizen, we clarify that:
The State Police has taken for execution the decision of the Special Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption (GJKKO), at the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office for the arrest of the IM citizen, 55 years old. For the implementation of this decision, the State Police has taken operational measures, according to the procedures provided by the Regulation.
Around 1:15 p.m., the State Police received information and then found that in the place called 'Kthesa e Kamza', in the area of Lapraka, citizen IM was traveling in a vehicle in the direction of Tirana.
At this moment, the vehicle was stopped and the leader of the operational group communicated to the citizen IM, the court's decision on the security measure "Arrest in prison" and asked him to get out of the vehicle.
Citizen IM has reacted in a rejecting and opposing manner and has uttered insulting words towards the representatives of the Police and Justice.
Based on the procedure provided by the Regulation, he was taken out of the vehicle and forcibly escorted.
The State Police underlines that the use of force to escort the subject was imposed by his forceful opposition to the implementation of the court decision that was communicated to him by Police employees.
