One of the most important moves is expected to be at the head of the Criminal Police Department, one of the most important structures in the State Police, which is also considered the second most important position in the police hierarchy.
Following recent changes in the leadership of several local directorates of the State Police, Director General Skënder Hita has initiated another phase of reorganization of management structures, this time at the General Directorate of the State Police.
The Chief of Police has officially opened the competition for the appointment of the heads of three key departments: the Criminal Police Department, the International Relations Department, and the Border and Migration Department.
According to information, after the opening of the competition, all State Police officers holding the rank of "leader" are eligible to apply for these positions. This process is considered part of the reformatting of leadership structures, with the aim of strengthening the efficiency of the organization and selecting leaders through a competitive procedure.
One of the most important moves is expected to be at the head of the Criminal Police Department, one of the most important structures in the State Police, which is also considered the second most important position in the police hierarchy.
This department has been headed by Neritan Nallbati since August 1, 2022, whose mandate has ended. Police sources indicate that one of the most talked about names to take over the leadership of this department is Ervin Hodaj, currently the acting director of the Durrës Police.
Changes are also expected in the Department of International Relations, which has been headed by Pëllumb Seferi since 2020. During his mandate, this department has been engaged in cooperation with international law enforcement agencies and in carrying out a significant number of extraditions. According to sources, one of the candidates expected to enter the race for the leadership of this department is Idajet Faskaj.
The reorganization process is also expected to include the Department for Border and Migration, which is currently headed by Saimir Muça. The latter was appointed to this position about a year ago, during the time when Ilir Proda was at the head of the State Police. New candidacies are also expected for this department within the framework of the competition opened by the Director General.
Sources indicate that the reformation will not stop only at the General Directorate. After the completion of the selection procedure for the three departments, changes are also expected to follow in several local directorates where no changes have yet been made. Specifically, the focus is on the directorates of the regions of Berat, Elbasan, Korçë, Gjirokastër and Durrës.
If Ervin Hodaj is elected head of the Criminal Police Department, then it will be necessary to appoint a new leader for the Durrës Police, where he currently serves as acting director.
With this process, Director General Skënder Hita continues the restructuring of the management levels of the State Police, following the moves undertaken earlier in the local directorates.
The changes aim to fill key positions through an open competition, while the new appointments are expected to determine the direction of the most important police structures for the coming years.
