On the side of the road leading to Drilon and Tushemisht along the shore of Lake Pogradec, a series of poles have been placed about every 5 meters. Each of them has cameras installed, which have aroused everyone's curiosity about why there is a need for a "Big Brother" in one of the 100 tourist villages of Albania.
A debate has erupted on social media as the cameras appear to be expensive, with some even saying they cost 12,000 euros per pole. But who installed these cameras, and for what purpose?
Initially, it was said that the project was funded by the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) while the implementer on the ground is the Albanian Development Fund. Its director, Dritan Agolli, gave this explanation for the investment a few months ago: "The highlight of this project is 58 intelligent streetlights equipped with air sensors, security cameras and touch-screen information screens for tourists," but it remains unclear why security cameras are needed for each pole, in a limited space.
But the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) has denied to Report TV that it is a funder of the project that has "filled" the Tushemisht promenade with numerous security cameras, which are installed every 5 meters.
“ In response to your request, we inform you that Law No. 119/2014 “On the Right to Information” regulates the right to access information produced or held by public authorities.
The Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) is a non-profit organization established on September 9, 2009 under the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America, with the support of the Government of the United States of America, which operates through its branch in Albania in programs in the fields of education and leadership, entrepreneurship, culture and eco-tourism and manages its own funds to advance its mission.
Consequently, AADF is not subject to Law No. 119/2014 “On the Right to Information”.
However, we clarify that the implementation of the project, to which you refer in your request, was not funded by AADF ," the AADF response states. /Shqiptarja.com
