For days, waste in the Elbasan landfill has been burning in the open, because there is no incinerator.
Journalist Ola Xama stated on the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV that this is the third summer in a row that this event has occurred and authorities justify it with high temperatures and the release of methane gas, however it is likely that the fire was intentional due to the landfill's capacity being exhausted.
" This is the third summer in a row that the Elbasan landfill has been engulfed in flames. The justification they give is the heat and the release of methane gas. But the suspicions are that due to the exhaustion of the landfill's capacity, the summer season is chosen to justify open burning, causing health damage and concern for living in those areas ," said Xama.
Meanwhile, Analyst Andi Bushati suggested that the waste could be taken to the yards of the two television stations, as they boasted incinerators, so their spaces could be used to solve the country's waste management crisis.
" When you did a show about the Elbasan incinerator, three days later, Klani and Topi each did an hour-long show about how well the Elbasan incinerator works. I say, throw some of this landfill waste in Topi's yard and some in Klan's yard, because they are equally responsible. It is a case where, when a colleague does an investigation, you take the money and do the opposite, it is terrible.

When I saw the mayor of Elbasan yesterday, who said that fires are breaking out in the summer... Meanwhile, everyone knows that in Elbasan there is no place to take the garbage anymore.
The same thing, the Tirana landfill is full. We need to hold them accountable, where does our garbage go? The land is full. Where does our garbage go? Even Tirana today has nowhere to take its garbage, so is it any wonder that they burn these in Tirana too ?", declared Bushati.
